California Micro Devices has introduced a dual display and audio controller, designed to integrate the VESA Standard Mobile Display Digital Interface (MDDI, Mobile Display Digital Interface) link, wireless phone, and with Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem (Mobile Station Modem, MSM) chipsets compatible.
The new CM5100 is fully compatible with the MDDI based serial client characteristics, is an integrated display with embedded memory controllers can support resolutions up to QVGA (320x240) of the main thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD ) and resolutions up to QCIF + (176x220) of the auxiliary display. CM5100's unique structure optimized for the current most advanced TFT LCD module, direct integration of the drive for one of the highlights in the glass substrate, and also allows the use of low-cost non-RAM drives for non-integrated display modules. In both cases, compared with competing solutions, CM5100-based solutions will make it in smaller packages, lower costs. Additionally, California Micro Devices to CM5100 also the first MDDI compatible with the integrated audio controller integrated display controller with advanced audio and video synchronization.
CM5100 supports all recommended by the MDDI specification necessary for audio, video and control information packets. Integrated MDDI client transceiver is Type I (internal mode, the connection wires of up to 15cm), by a data line pair, a set of filtering lines on (strobe pair) and a dedicated power line to the composition, can support data rates up to 385Mbps. Thus, in low supply, CM5100 requires only six lines, and the traditional parallel interface may be to control the display contains 60 routes, and other sources.
CM5100 contained within the video imaging devices and integrated structure so that it can be used as buffers with display controller to use, through a standard RGB interface control resolution QVGA main display, CPU control auxiliary class interface "smart" display. Audio packets can also be transmitted through the MDDI pipe and through the I2S interface, transferred to a local stereo audio codec. I2C host interface allows CM5100 with any MDDI interface to allow its control through I2C auxiliary devices.
CM5100 low power process technology development, with a variety of power loss can minimize the different power management modes. CM5100 100-spot, 0.5mm pitch wafer-level chip package, the form factor of only 5.0mm x 5.0mm, is the industry's smallest MDDI based display controller.
Evaluation boards and chip samples of the CM5100 are available now. 1,000-piece quantities start at $ 6 per piece. Mass production scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2006.
